12 Common mistakes to avoid on your wedding day...
AVOID THESE COMMON MISTAKES
Every bride's nightmare is something going wrong on their big day. But hey, don't panic! Follow our 'what not to do' guide and you can avoid some of those major bridal mistakes!
1) LAST MINUTE HAIR CHANGES
How beautiful is this bridal hair? By our friends at Magic Coiffeur.
Any drastic hair changes, such as colour or length, should be done well in advance of your wedding day. This gives you a chance to adapt to your new look. In the months prior to your wedding, try to be consistent with your hair colouring appointments and find a stylist you know you can trust. Then, a week before your wedding day, get your hair refreshed in your normal style. Perfect for your big day!
If you’re booking with us, we have a range of fantastic hair stylists to suit your style. How beautiful is this style by our friends at Magic Coiffeur Kaş? Check them out here. To find out more about our package deals, or to contact us for a free wedding consultation, click here.
2) DRINKING TOO MUCH

Though it can be tempting to wash away the jitters on your big day, don't overdo it! Your wedding day is special, and you'll make lots of memories that you'll want to carry forever. You don't want to cut the day short because you feel sick, or wake up the next day with a raging hangover. However, it's natural to want to have a bit of a drink, so pop open the champagne; after all, it IS a party!
3) HAVING BEAUTY TREATMENTS ON YOUR WEDDING DAY

Oh no! You've changed your mind on your nail colour, or you've got redness from waxing. This is why it's important to have all beauty treatments done a couple of days prior to your big day. This allows your skin to settle following any treatments, and gives you time to adjust anything you're not happy with.
Travelling abroad, but want a spray tan? Have it the day before you travel (or on the day, for night travellers), and wash it off when you arrive. Before your big day, minimise your time in the water, stay well moisturised, and use a high SPF sun lotion to make sure you don't burn.

4) CHANGING YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE

If you suffer from skincare problems that you want to try and eliminate before your big day, it's best to start any new routines a few months in advance. New skincare routines can disrupt your skin, and you don't want an unexpected breakout or rash occurring on your big morning. Establish a good routine a few months in advance and drink plenty of water; this way you're sure to be glowing! Similarly, if you have any cosmetic allergies, inform your makeup artist upon booking. That way, she can be certain she has the correct products for you, well in advance.
5) MAKING DRASTIC ALTERATIONS TO YOUR DRESS

Whilst it can be tempting to make changes to your dress, these should only be done if absolutely necessary. If last minute changes go wrong, you could be stuck without a dress. Though, saying this, it's important to have a last fitting a week or two before your day. This way, a tailor can perform any minor alterations if necessary. This also applies to suits & bridesmaid dresses.
6) PLANNING YOUR HEN OR STAG FOR THE NIGHT BEFORE
Whilst it can seem 'traditional' to celebrate your hen or stag do the night before, those who suffer from bad hangovers know why this is a bad idea! Even if you don't intend to drink much, it's hard not to get carried away in the moment. Better to plan the big celebrations at least a few days in advance and get an early night instead; that way you'll be fresh and glowing for your wedding day.

7) FORGETTING TO EAT... BUT DON'T OVERDO IT

Nerves get to the best of us, and this can lead to a range of symptoms; including feeling sick and a loss of appetite. It can be tempting to skip the food - big mistake! You're in for a big day, and you're likely to be on your feet a LOT. Make sure you eat a small, healthy breakfast and avoid too much caffeine, as caffeine may increase your anxiety levels. During your day, you're going to be very busy with guests; everyone will want to say hello! Don't forget to take a minute for yourself to enjoy your food, you need the energy to dance the night away.
Similarly, don't overeat. Nerves can also cause us to binge, but this leads to bloating and can cause your dress not to fit as well in as it did the day before. Also, you don't want to feel sluggish and tired post meal - you have guests to attend to.
8) RUSHING YOUR HAIR & MAKEUP

One big mistake brides make is not leaving enough time to get ready. The result is a rushed morning, a flustered bride, and possibly something the bride isn't QUITE happy with. If someone is doing your hair and makeup for you, make sure you ask how long they will take and double this time for your schedule - this will ensure you have time to make corrections if you're not happy. If you're doing it yourself, make sure you practice before your big day, and become familiar with the routine and how long it takes. Again, double this time for your schedule to allow for mistakes, and double check you have enough of all your go-to products the day before.
If you're booking with us, we work closely with a variety of hairstylists and makeup artists to make sure you feel perfect on your big day. Still want to do your own? No worries. We'll factor it into your schedule for you, you can sit back and relax. For a free consultation click here.
9) FORGETTING TO THANK YOUR GUESTS FOR COMING

Your guests have taken the time to be with you on your big day. A lot of them will have brought you a gift, purchased a new outfit, travelled far distances, and the list goes on. Whilst it can be difficult to keep up, especially in large weddings, try to thank as many people as you can for their attendance. A lot of guests will be family you don't see very often, so whilst they understand you're in high demand, they'll also appreciate a quick 'hello, nice to see you.'
10) NOT SPENDING ENOUGH TIME WITH YOUR PARTNER

At this point you're thinking 'oh no, how will I fit it all in?!'. Don't worry - you'll find the majority of your guests will come find you. However, don't forget, it's YOUR big day as a couple. Make time for each other. Don't feel guilty, or like you're depriving your guests, if you choose to take a quiet moment with your other half. A good time is during dinner; guests are busy, so you'll have a chance to talk with less interruptions. This is an incredibly special day for both of you, and it's likely you're feeling closer to each other than ever.
11) FORGETTING TO BRING YOUR LIPSTICK
Most brides, and some of our fabulous grooms, choose to wear makeup. 9/10 times this includes a lipstick. 9/10 times this lipstick ends up elsewhere, VERY quickly! You're constantly dishing out kisses - during photos, during the ceremony, greeting guests - even the strongest stain struggles! Make sure you ask a bridesmaid or close friend to hold onto your lipstick for you. This day you can be photo-ready throughout the day. Having your makeup done? Ask your makeup artist to scrape a small bit into a tub for you, and keep it topped up through the day.
12) FORGETTING TO HAVE FUN

Last but not least - and most importantly - have FUN! It's your special day, you're surrounded by your loved ones and it's a celebration of the love yourself and your partner hold for each other. Don't let anything ruin it - if something goes wrong, take it in your stride. It won't matter by the end of the day!
